Broadoaks Country House wedding photography

Beautiful wedding venue in the Lake District

Broadoaks Country Housel is one of my favourite wedding venues in the Lake District. It is such a welcoming and cosy venue with absolutely amazing views of the beautiful countryside all around. For couples wishing to get married in the Lake District it is the perfect choice.

I have always loved the Lake District, it’s one of my favourite places in the world. There is such a sense of beauty and awe about the landscape there, whilst at the same time everything feels relaxed and peaceful.

Weddings in the Lake District are extremely popular and Broadoaks Country House is one of the most popular wedding venues. Located up on a hill just a couple of minutes drive away from Winderemere, as you turn in to the venue and up the drive towards the main house, it is not hard to see why so many couples want to get married here. The house itself is beautiful and is so full of character whilst the gardens are stunning. Couples even have the option of having an outdoor wedding ceremony here too.

Why I love weddings at Broadoaks Country House

Well, firstly I love the Lake District. There is something really exciting about the drive up to this venue that makes me happy. I have photographed weddings at a number of venues nearby and I don’t think I have come across many other venues which are as full of character and charm as Broadoaks.

Everything about this venue is photogenic too. The house itself is even built from traditional Lake District stone and slate to stay in keeping with the local area. It is perfect for a country chic wedding.

Whether it is outdoors with the amazing views over the valley which runs alongside the venue, or the cosy rooms indoors, from a photography point of view, Broadoaks really is a great venue.

I have photographed weddings here both in the summer and the winter and whatever the weather, this is a venue where you are guaranteed fantastic photographs.

For summer weddings, couples can even get married outside on the lawn. I love outdoor ceremonies and Broadoaks is one of the best venues I have worked at where this is an option. There is such a feeling of peace and quiet here are the venue is set back far from the road and any traffic noise. Then after the ceremony, newlyweds and their family and friends can enjoy drinks and canapes in the seven acres of landscaped gardens.

Winter weddings are just as good here though as the inside of Broadoaks County House is so cosy and warm. My favourite room is the drawing room which has comfy sofas and a roaring fire. This room can also be used to hold wedding ceremonies too. Although it is quite small, it is just perfect for smaller intimate weddings.

The wedding breakfast room is beautiful too. For the last wedding I photographed here the room was set up with lots of candles and it was absolutely breathtaking.

The bridal suite, where brides can get ready on the morning of their wedding, is a really fantastic and very photogenic room. Again, full of character and warmth. The room has a four-poster bed and the light which streams in through the window is perfect for wedding photographs. The room overlooks the front of the house so the excitement always rises when bride and bridesmaids sneak a peek outside and see guests arriving! For couples getting married at Broadoaks, it is then just a short walk before it’s time to walk down the aisle.

Winter weddings

Many wedding venues in the Lake District are absolutely beautiful in the summer when the sun shining, and Broadoaks Country House Hotel is no different. There aren’t many of those venues however which are just as well suited to winter weddings, but Broadoaks definitely is. Whereas guests can relax in the beautiful gardens in the warmer months, during the winter you can feel as cosy indoors by the roaring fire. This is a venue which feels more like a well loved home than a bespoke wedding venue – especially as bride and grooms getting married here have exclusivity of the whole venue. It is a venue where you can’t help but feel relaxed. At the same time, even though the weather maybe a little chilly, there is still plenty of opportunities both inside and out for stunning photographs. This photograph for example, from Jackie & Alastair’s winter wedding at Broadoaks, was taken on the driveway on one of the foggiest days I have ever known! The cold weather and fog really makes this photograph feel romantic.
