Portmeirion Village Weddings

Portmeirion Village in Wales is one of the most beautiful, and certainly the most unique wedding venues that I have photographed at in the UK. It also almost impossible to describe Portmeirion to someone who hasn’t been, it is just so different and jam packed full of character. Not only is it absolutely perfect for weddings as it is just so stunning, colourful and photogenic, but it is also a place that I love to visit outside of weddings too. It really is one of my favourite places to go in the UK and you really do have to go there to experience the magic.

Designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis and based on the Italian Riviera (I love Wales but you really do feel more like you are in Italy than rural Wales!) Portmeirion Village is home to two hotels, cottages, a spa, amazing gardens and even a beach. From a wedding photography point of view it is just about perfect. If you have chosen to get married here then congratulations, because you have made an absolutely brilliant choice and you should be very excited!

Portmeirion is probably most famous for being the setting for the 1960s cult television programme ‘The Prisioner’ (something I must admit I haven’t seen) so it has a really interesting and fascinating history. The main thing though is that it is the very definition of unqiue, and in the best way possible. It is impossible to visit Portmeirion Village and not love it almost straight away.

One of the most photogenic wedding venues in the UK

For a wedding photographer, Portmeirion is just about the perfect wedding wedding venue. There are literally countless different places and backdrops for your wedding photographs, I can’t think of another wedding venue which offers so much variety. There are so many colourful buildings and cottages around the village, beautiful gardens, incredible views over the sea and an beautiful beach too. If you are getting married in the summer months, the sunset takes place after the public have left Portmeirion so yourselves and your wedding guests have the Village to yourselves and it feels so peaceful. I have loved walking around all the amazing places taking bride and groom portraits in the evening as the sun is setting. It is hard to think of any other wedding venue in the UK which offers as many amazing opportunities for beautiful photographs as Portmeirion does.

Why I love taking photographs at Portmeirion

I have been lucky enough to photograph a number of weddings at Portmeirion Village now and I can honestly say that I have loved every single one. Not only is the village itself absolutely brilliant for weddings but the actual hotel and cottages are all perfect locations for bride and grooms to get ready on the morning of their wedding. Hercules Hall, which is where wedding ceremonies and receptions take place, is another fantastic location packed full of character. The light in Hercules Hall, which also has a stunning Jacobean ceiling, is amazing too as during the ceremony bride and grooms face large windows with beautiful light coming in, so for photography you are almost guaranteed fantastic images.
