The Reid Rooms wedding photography
A few weeks ago I traveled down to sunny Essex for Katie and Dave’s wedding at The Reid Rooms. I knew this was going to be a very special wedding because not only are Katie and Dave a brilliant couple, they are also very good friends of mine 🙂
I started the day with Dave as he got ready at my friend’s Julia and Carl’s house (Julia is a wedding extraordinaire and has played a big part in so many of my friend’s weddings, for Katie and Dave’s wedding she made their amazing wedding cake – so clever!) before going to photograph Katie and she got ready with her bridesmaids. The whole day was so relaxed and fun and it was a privilege to photograph such a happy day for my friends.
Katie and Dave – thank you both so much again for asking me to be your wedding photographer, I am so pleased you had such an incredible day and I wish you a lifetime of happiness together x
Here is Katie with her wedding story 🙂
How did you both meet?
Dave and I were set up on a blind date by his auntie- my work colleague seven years ago. Dave was on two weeks rest and recuperation from a tour of Iraq so it was a whirlwind romance that carried on via snail mail until he returned to the UK four months later.
What was the proposal like?
No big gesture, no extravagant plan…The proposal was in our living room on Christmas Day, with the big question being written in a Christmas card. My beautiful engagement ring was wrapped in a big box to put me off the scent. The embarrassing part was that Dave had given me a onesie that morning… I was therefore dressed as a furry leopard at the time!!
How did you find wedding planning? Do you have any tips for other brides?
I enjoyed the planning process, Dave helped with decisions occasionally by saying ‘whatever you think’!! My favorite part was making the wedding stationary and favours. I made time to have a wander through the venue and see everything before everyone arrived. It was lovely to see how everything came together on the day.
Why did you choose The Reid Rooms for your wedding?
A friend of ours got married at the venue a few years ago, and we found that it had such a relaxed and casual atmosphere. We looked around the venue during the winter and decided it would be perfect for a spring wedding. It had a quaint ceremony room, beautiful courtyard and a farmhouse on site that I got ready in.
What was your favourite part of your wedding day?
We both enjoyed the whole day. It was lovely to have so many friends and family there as we became husband and wife. I really enjoyed the speeches, it was lovely to be facing everyone and listening to funny anecdotes, including heckling from the crowd! Dave’s best man Carl did brilliantly and my Mum broke tradition and did a speech, which was lovely. Dave enjoyed our first dance to Paul Weller’s English Rose, a song that means a lot to us both.
Who were your favourite wedding suppliers?
Our caterers ‘Chicks’ were amazing, the portions were huge and the service was excellent.
Sue at ‘Sue’s Flowers’ did an amazing job of our bouquets and table centres. I really wanted to use mercury effect bottles on the tables and Sue worked with me to design something that fitted with the rustic style.
My friend Natalie who has recently qualified did my makeup, and our friend Julia made our beautiful four tiered cake.
Our photographer wasn’t too bad either 😉 Joking apart Neil said we wouldn’t notice him there on the day and we didn’t, we are so pleased with the photos he has produced and can’t recommend him enough >> Aww thank you so much Katie!!
Love this set Neil, I think it might be one of my favourites! So many amazing frames, you must have had such a ball, and it must have been lovely having Michelle there with you too! x
Lovely images Neil, beautiful coverage and loving the evening portraits!
Beautiful Neil, a gorgeous wedding and I know how much it means to shoot for good friends! I also see what you mean about the WB, this looks like a beautiful warm day with lots of sun and happy people, love it! Think my favourite is the couple one with the leaves blurred round them…& I’m loving seeing the use of light after seeing you do it first hand! Shamazeballs Mr Redfern!
