Thornton Manor Wedding Photography
Recently I had the huge pleasure of photographing Carolyn and Simon’s wedding at Thornton Manor in Cheshire. It’s hard to describe how much fun this day was, from the moment I arrived in the morning to take photographs of Carolyn getting ready with all her bridesmaids (just thinking of the word “boxes” makes me laugh now! 😉 ), through to leaving Carolyn and Simon dancing the night away in the Lakeside Marquee, I don’t think either of them stopped smiling and laughing all day.
Even though I’d only met Carolyn and Simon a couple of times, including their engagement shoot in Formby, it really was like photographing the wedding of friends I’d known for years 🙂 On top of all this I also got to work with the incredible Flossy & Leigh hair and make-up artists again, who always make the girls feel so special and look so beautiful – I couldn’t recommend them more.
Thank you so much again for asking me to photograph your wedding Carolyn and Simon, for being so much fun on the day and also for all your lovely kind words about your photographs. It has been so nice getting to know you both and I know that you are going to be so happy together. Huge congratulations again x
Carolyn and Simon’s wedding story
What was the proposal like?
It was a beautiful sunny day in Greenwich (where we live) and we headed off to the park with a picnic. After eating (lots) and sipping on some champagne, Simon got down on two knees (he blames the nerves) and asked me to be his wife.
How did you find all the wedding planning?
I loved it! It was a little overwhelming at first as there is so much to do, but we had a year so could take our time and do the planning slowly. Simon was in charge of the band and photographer and we struck gold with both!!!
Do you have any tips for other brides who are just starting to plan their wedding day?
Use Neil Redfern?! But seriously, work out what matters to you and spend time getting those right – all the small details will come together in the end. Also – if something goes wrong, no one will notice so don’t worry! And enjoy the countdown as the day goes soooo fast!!
Why did you choose Thornton Manor as your wedding venue?
We wanted something traditional in the daytime but wanted to have a big party with friends and family in the evening. Thornton Manor gave us the best of both worlds as the house is charming and traditional, yet the marquee is really pretty and simple – and is ideal for a band and dancing!
What was your favourite part of your wedding day?
I can’t single one part out – it was all amazing. I will never forget walking in the Music Room for the ceremony and seeing Simon waiting at the front and all my friends and family smiling.
Who were your favourite wedding suppliers?
Obviously Neil! And also Flossy & Leigh – absolute legends and made the morning really fun too. They stayed all day to make me and the guests feel like celebrities!! We also loved Manor Cars who took us to the marquee in a spectacular Rolls Royce!
Barretts catering (Michelle was so attentive and in control!), Springbank Flowers did an amazing job with the flowers (especially the bouquets!), the band (The Different Lights) had everyone up dancing and the Solo Players (string quartet) played great modern songs in strings – even learning Simon’s favourite song especially for the ceremony!!
Thank you so much Carolyn for all of your lovely kind words, they really mean a lot to me. Here are some of my favourite photographs from your incredible day at Thornton Manor:

Thornton Manor is such a stunning place and you’ve nailed it again mate. I LOVE the shot of Carolyn in the chair and Simon looking out of the window. Beautiful 🙂
I love the clear relationship you develop with your couples.
I also completely agree the girls at Flossy and Leigh are amazing!
Fave pictures are easily Carolyn and Simons portraits in the tree lines, simply stunning. xx
Neil these are fantastic – it looks like such a chilled and happy day. And it helps having such a gorgeous couple!
But that portrait of Carolyn in the chair and Simon by the window is fantastic!
These images are timeless. I got goosebumps seeing the one of Carolyn walking down the aisle. The indoor portraits are incredible. My favourite is the black and white image by the window with Carolyn’s reflection. I absolutely love the aggressive hairspray one at the end too! xx
Stunning set of images, I love use of light, focus and location – fab expressions from everyone as well 🙂
